Seven Siamese Cats
I keep thinking, I'm a city girl. I can parallel park better than my other half of a country boy. But, the drive from Don's house is back into the city is nothing but back roads and neighborhoods of trees and greenery. It makes me happy. On the drive to his house, I am greeted by one of the most beautiful pieces of landscape scenery I have ever seen. When I see it, I get a sense of clarity that fills me with peace. I kind of like hearing the frogs croak and watching millions of lightning bugs glowing in the fields or the heat lightning that brightens the night sky.
I don't know if it's summer or where I'm at. Or both. But, it's refreshing.
My grandfather used to own a computer solutions company in North Carolina before he passed away. A woman who used to work for him has graciously offered me a paid internship over the summer. All of my family lives here. My mom's mom, dad's mom, aunts, uncles, and cousins. In fact, you could say I'm related to almost everyone in this little old country town.
My grandmother's boyfriend, Don, has seven Siamese cats. Seven. He's out of town, so my grandmother and I are staying at his house. We are watching his seven Siamese cats. He's a carpenter. He makes beautiful cabinetry and furniture. He built his own house, and made almost everything in it by hand. Everything from the wooden siding on his house to the beautiful wooden framed arches in the doorways. He took a glass staining class, and made the stained glass decor over his front door. He has turned his basement into a sanctuary of toy trains. He loves those toy trains, but not more than his seven Siamese cats.
