Every-day Recipe: Easy Tortellini

Hello! This is Dan (Ashley's fiance), and Ashley asked me to share one of my favorite simple dishes.

It's a really easy recipe, if you can even call it that- there's not much to it, you just cook fresh tortellini, and then season it however you wish. But, I'll give you a step-by-step explanation of the process.

I) Procure some fresh tortellini. You can find this at almost any grocery store; it comes in a little plastic box, and is about $4.00. You can find tortellini filled with all manner of things, but my favorite is just a cheese blend.

II) Cook the tortellini according to the directions on the package. You really have to be careful to avoid your pot boiling over, and just be aware that fresh pasta requires a slightly gentler touch than dry pasta.

III) Drain the pasta and season. Seasoning is really up to you- I know people who eat the plain tortellini, douse it in a little olive oil, or even tomato sauce. Today I decided to throw in just a little pesto, some black pepper, grated parmesan, and basil. It turned out quite delicious, if I do say so myself.

Since this is a post called "Every-day Recipes", it stands to reason that this is not a terribly involved recipe. It may not be haute cuisine, but it's tasty, comforting, and takes about 20 minutes to prepare. Sounds like a winner in my book.

  1. This is such a great idea! I've never thought about just having pasta with a splash of seasoning, but I love that idea! Going to have to try it out. Thanks for sharing, Daniel!
